Amish Chicken

  • Author: Buzz Write

Description

This Amish Chicken recipe delivers tender, juicy chicken baked in a rich, creamy gravy. The flour coating crisps up the chicken beautifully, while the heavy cream and water mixture creates a deliciously smooth gravy as it bakes. It’s a simple yet comforting dish that pairs well with hearty sides like mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 pieces of chicken (thighs, drumsticks, or breasts), cleaned
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Instructions

1️⃣ Season and coat the chicken:

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  • Dredge each piece of chicken in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to coat evenly. Shake off any excess flour.

2️⃣ Prepare the baking dish:

  • Lightly grease a baking dish with butter or oil.
  • Sprinkle a little of the leftover seasoned flour over the bottom of the dish.
  • Arrange the chicken pieces in the dish, skin side up.

3️⃣ Mix the cream and water:

  • In a separate bowl, mix together the heavy whipping cream and water.
  • Pour this mixture evenly over the chicken, ensuring that all the pieces are covered.

4️⃣ Bake the chicken:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Bake the chicken for 1 1/2 hours, until the skin is golden brown and crispy, and the gravy is thick and bubbling.

5️⃣ Serve:

  • Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve the chicken with the gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or any side of your choice.

Notes

  • You can adjust the seasoning in the flour mixture to suit your taste by adding herbs like thyme or rosemary.
  • For added flavor, you can use chicken broth instead of water when making the cream mixture.
