  • Author: Christine

Description

This Golden Seared Cod with Herb Butter Sauce is a simple, elegant dish featuring perfectly seared cod fillets drizzled with a fragrant butter sauce infused with garlic, fresh herbs, and lemon. It’s quick to prepare and delivers a restaurant-quality meal in just minutes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6-ounce) cod fillets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, snipped

Instructions

1️⃣ Season the cod:
Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

2️⃣ Sear the cod:
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers but isn’t smoking. Carefully place the cod fillets in the skillet and cook for about 4 minutes on one side, until the underside is crisp and golden brown.

3️⃣ Flip and finish cooking:
Gently flip the fillets with a spatula and cook for another 3 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is opaque throughout.

4️⃣ Keep warm:
Remove the cooked cod from the skillet and place it on a plate. Tent the plate with foil to keep the fillets warm.

5️⃣ Prepare the herb butter sauce:
In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add the butter and minced garlic, cooking until the butter is melted and the garlic is fragrant, about 1 minute.

6️⃣ Add lemon and herbs:
Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the lemon juice, fresh parsley, dill, and chives. Mix until combined.

7️⃣ Serve:
Spoon the warm herb butter sauce over the cod fillets. Serve immediately, garnished with extra herbs or a lemon wedge if desired.

Notes

  • Alternative fish: This recipe works well with other white fish such as halibut, haddock, or tilapia.
  • Serving suggestions: Serve the cod with steamed vegetables, rice, or roasted potatoes for a complete meal.
  • Butter sauce variation: You can add a splash of white wine to the herb butter sauce for an extra layer of flavor.
